Amelia Townsend is an Australian dancer and Soloist of The Royal Ballet, recognised for her artistry, clarity of technique and expressive range across both classical and contemporary repertoire. Raised in Brisbane, she began her training at the Annette Roselli Dance Academy before moving to The Australian Ballet School and later The Royal Ballet School, which she joined in 2015. During her training she performed the Swan Lake pas de quatre at the Assemblée Internationale in Toronto and appeared in works including Concerto, Les Sylphides, Bluebird from The Sleeping Beauty and the opera Iris. As a student she also performed professionally with The Royal Ballet in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Sylvia, The Nutcracker, Giselle, Manon and Swan Lake.

Amelia joined The Royal Ballet’s Aud Jebsen Young Dancers Programme at the start of the 2018/19 Season, becoming an Artist in 2019, First Artist in 2023 and Soloist in 2025. Her company roles include The Mad Hatter (Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland), Fairy Autumn (Cinderella), Courtesan (Manon), Juliet’s Friend (Romeo and Juliet), Spanish and Mirliton (The Nutcracker), Cygnet (Swan Lake) and roles in Anemoi, Corybantic Games, Light of Passage, Everyone Keeps Me, The Statement and The Weathering. She has also created roles in Joshua Junker’s Never Known and Joseph Toonga’s See Us!!.

Amelia performed with Ballet Theatre Queensland during her early training and returned as a guest artist for the 2017 Gala. She remains a valued BTQ alumna whose early performance experiences helped shape her artistic foundation.
