Training FAQ's

Do BTQ provide career development and mentorship opportunities?

Yes. BTQ believe dancers and young people thrive when they are supported and provided with age-appropriate guidance and support. Faculty provide general industry and career advice in group settings and we welcome requests for personalised guidance, particularly as dancers look to enter the industry.

Will students from the BTQ training programs be prioritised for BTQ production auditions and casting?

No. BTQ Productions remain independent and open to all dancers from all schools, and casting is based solely on suitability for the role in any given production. Participation in BTQ’s part-time training programs does not guarantee or influence BTQ production, audition selection or casting. The programs, however, provide a targeted approach for students to build the skills needed to audition for, and advance in performing arts settings.

Can my dancer continue external dance exams (RAD, CSTD, ATOD, Cecchetti, etc.)?

Yes. Dancers may choose to continue syllabus classes and examinations at their home studio.
BTQ only offers the Performance Pathway Syllabus, designed by our esteemed faculty for dancers who wish to learn and develop the tools required for the performing arts industry. Our program is performance and industry focused and can be used to complement existing exam/syllabus pathways.

What performance opportunities are included with the part-time training?

The part-time program is designed to build performance confidence and stage-readiness through regular training in technique, repertoire and stagecraft. While participation does not include performance in BTQ’s main-stage productions, dancers will have opportunities to take part in in-house presentations throughout the year.
These experiences provide valuable rehearsal, performance preparation, and artistic development, helping dancers feel confident when auditioning for BTQ productions or other professional opportunities.

What are the fees?

F‍ee outlines are available in our prospectus document and will be provided on enrolment.

Are BTQ training programs connected to BTQ’s productions?

Yes and No. Part-time and pre-school afternoon training programs are independent of BTQ’s annual main stage productions. Students who audition and are selected to study BTQ’s Advanced Diploma (Elite Performance) participate in BTQ productions as part of their Nationally recognised training qualification.

BTQ main-stage productions are open and accessible to all students from all studios, and casting remains inclusive. Regardless of a student's audition entry pathway (main-stage company auditions/Advanced Diploma auditions), once accepted, all dancers are treated equally and have equal opportunity to participate in company activities and audition for age-appropriate roles. Participation in BTQ’s Independent Training Programs do not influence or confer an advantage in audition selection or production casting.

Can my child remain at their current studio?

Yes. Students may continue classes at their home studios.
Our afternoon blocks are designed to support balance, offering performance-focused training that can complement existing commitments.

How are levels determined?

Placement is based on Queensland school years, ensuring age-appropriate progression, technical readiness, and a clear development pathway.*
*Students will be placed in levels suitable to their age, maturity and skill level and will be open to individual advancement if deemed appropriate by the artistic faculty.

Is this suitable for dancers pursuing full-time training in the future?

Yes. The part-time program builds essential performance and technical foundations that prepare students for more intensive pathways, including BTQ’s Advanced Diploma or other full-time programs.

Is there a required uniform?

Yes. BTQ has a designated training uniform to ensure professionalism, unity and correct visibility for faculty feedback.
