Regional Dancer Auditions – Hansel & Gretel

A professionally supported pathway for regional dancers, aged 8–22, to perform on Queensland’s most iconic stages.

Ballet Theatre Queensland is delighted to welcome regional dancers from across Australia to audition for our upcoming season of Hansel & Gretel.

We are proud to open our 90th Anniversary Season with a brand new production that reflects both our history and artistic vision. Inspired by the Brothers Grimm’s beloved tale, Hansel & Gretel will be rich in theatrical magic and visual detail, combining storytelling, original choreography and an evocative new score.

This bold new work will honour Ballet Theatre Queensland’s rich history of storytelling, while embracing the creativity and ambition that continue to shape our future. It will also offer an exceptional opportunity for young artists to originate roles in a world premiere, developing their artistry through the creation of new work. A fitting and spectacular beginning to this milestone year, Hansel & Gretel will premiere at QPAC in Brisbane in January 2027.

Designed with Regional Dancers in Mind

Ballet Theatre Queensland is opening this opportunity to regional dancers aged 8 to 22.

We understand that weekly travel to Brisbane is not always possible for families outside metropolitan areas. This pathway has been designed to balance in-person intensives with supported remote learning, allowing regional dancers to fully participate in the production.

  • Dancers will come together for an intensive rehearsal period during the school holidays, allowing them to build choreography, connection, and confidence in person.
  • Following the intensive, dancers will continue training and rehearsals through supported online coaching sessions during the school term.
  • Dancers will then join the full company for final stage rehearsals and performances in January.

If you or your child dreams of performing in a professionally-staged ballet production, BTQ offers a truly extraordinary pathway to experience the magic of live theatre at the highest level.

Remote Coaching & Preparation

Between in-person rehearsal periods, regional dancers will be supported through remote learning and rehearsal preparation, including:

  • Access to recorded rehearsal footage to support learning and practice at home
  • Remote coaching sessions, scheduled throughout the school term (Times to be confirmed with successful applicants)
  • Zoom connection days

Further details regarding coaching staff and session scheduling will be provided closer to the rehearsal period.
