At Ballet Theatre Queensland, our mission is to create opportunities for dancers to grow, thrive and reach their potential. Through our range of BTQ training programs, students access comprehensive dance training designed to develop strong technique, artistry, performance experience and a broad understanding of their craft.

As an additional pathway, BTQ offers students the opportunity to undertake Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) Vocational Graded examinations from Intermediate Foundation onwards (11yrs+).

Recognised internationally, RAD examinations provide students with a formal benchmark of achievement in classical ballet, while opening the door to a broader range of educational, performance and development opportunities.

For Queensland secondary students, eligible RAD Vocational Graded examinations can contribute up to eight credits towards the Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE), providing students with formal recognition of their ballet training alongside their secondary studies.

Beyond examinations, RAD students can access a range of opportunities locally, nationally and internationally, including the Jacqueline Morland Awards, the Australian Advanced 1 Bursary and, at the highest levels, pathways to ARAD status and The Margot Fonteyn International Ballet Competition.

Our RAD program is designed to complement, rather than replace, the BTQ Ballet Syllabus. RAD preparation is integrated alongside students’ existing BTQ training, providing another framework through which they can consolidate their classical technique, musicality and artistry while working towards internationally recognised qualifications.

Participation in RAD is entirely optional, providing an additional pathway for students who wish to formalise their classical ballet training, gain recognised qualifications and engage with the broader opportunities available through the Royal Academy of Dance.
